What do you think a "good child" is? (5th Grader, Tokyo)

I don't think there is such a thing as a "good child," and I also don't think there is a "bad child" either. Everyone just has their good points and weak points.

Of course, there might be some exceptions. A child who hurts animals on purpose every day might be a "bad child." But almost none of us do things like that.

Naturally, children make mistakes sometimes. For example, you might take your anger out on someone else just because you are feeling grumpy or frustrated. But you don't do that because you are a bad kid. It happens because you might not realize you are frustrated, or because you haven't learned how to handle your angry feelings yet. That makes you a child who "doesn't know how to deal with it yet," but definitely not a "bad child."

I think the exact same thing goes for a "good child." The action of helping someone in trouble might be a "good" thing to do. But that just means you are a child who is able to do good things, not that you are a "good child." That is why I believe there is no such thing as a "good child."
