April 2024 Updates

I have a few exciting career updates!

1. Public Philosophy Project with Mainichi Children's Newspaper.

Starting in April 2024, I will begin my work as a regular columnist for Mainichi Children's Newspaper, which is a kids' version of the Mainichi Newspaper.

For those in the U.S., the Mainichi Newspaper is a Japanese equivalent of the Washington Post. They have daily newspapers for children (Mainichi Children's Newspaper) with a section where philosophers answer children's questions.

I will join the existing team of Japanese philosophers who have been pioneering the Philosophy for Children (P4C) movement in Japan. You will see my posts approximately twice a month, and my posts will be available periodically in the regular Mainichi Newspaper. I am excited and honored to answer kids' questions as a philosopher!

2. PES Program Committee

Starting in 2024, I will be serving as a program committee member for the Philosophy of Education Society (PES), the largest (and probably most established) international organization for philosophers of education. I am honored to be invited to join the committee and excited to give back to this community.

3. Editor for Precollege Philosophy and Public Practice

I will also start working as an editor for Precollege Philosophy and Public Practice.

Before starting my Ph.D. program, I was a Philosophy for Children (P4C) teacher, and P4C is something I feel deeply passionate about. It also taught me so much about teaching (especially how to respect students' intellectual autonomy), made me a better teacher, and gave me much to think about children's moral status.

As my own research interests started diverging from P4C, I am glad I was able to find an opportunity to stay connected with my P4C roots.

4. I did a podcast!
