How to Work with Me
Note: You can call me “Ka Ya,“ “Professor Lee,“ or “Dr. Lee“ :)
General Expectations
You are responsible for your academic work and successful and timely completion of your academic program. Thus, it is your job:
to understand your academic program's requirements and expectations
to plan your actions, and
to monitor the progress of your academic work.
You are the commander of your own ship, so to speak.
This means that I will not:
follow up with you on your unanswered emails.
send you a reminder for our meetings, your writing deadlines, etc.
Email Communication
DOs
Start your email with one of the following phrases:
Dear Professor Lee,
Dear Ka Ya,
Give me at least 24 hours (on weekdays) to respond.
Give me a deadline if/when you're asking me to do something (e.g., give feedback on your draft paper).
(if you’re my unofficial mentee) CC your primary supervisor in all of our email communication, unless specified otherwise by your primary supervisor.
I try to keep primary supervisors in the loop when I communicate with those that I am mentoring in an unofficial capacity.
If the primary supervisor explicitly requests that they’re taken off from the email communication, stop cc-ing them.
DON’Ts
Don’t send me last minute requests in general.
Don't expect my response on weekends, public holidays, and my scheduled holidays (annual leave). Plan accordingly.
